What does it mean to be a Latino at UC Santa Barbara?
According to the United States Census Bureau, in 2021, 46% of the Santa Barbara county was Hispanic/Latino. From 2012 to 2018, the Latino population shrunk by 24%. In contrast to the rest of the Central Coast, Santa Barbara is one of the only cities that has this decline in Latino population, increasing the need for the community to stay as bonded as ever. UCSB is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), with 25% of their population being Hispanic, Designated by the islamic Association of Colleges & Universities, UCSB prides itself over their diversity in enrollment and success. The Latino community is celebrated throughout the Univesrity of California, Santa Barbara through Latino club, organizations, and the Latino student population. |
